My new EP, “Drinkin’ Cowboys” is set to be released on May 14, 2026 on Spotify, iTunes, etc. This project was inspired by the hardworking cowboys and farmers across the land and the every-day experiences we have along the way. The EP features nine songs telling the cowboy story life, looking up to the stars, trying to rope the moon, and drinking. Welcome to Bob Shank Country! I am a songwriter with a deep interest in words, lyrics, chord progressions, and melodies. Music has a way of speaking to us in ways that nothing else can even come close to comparing! I listen to music all the time. Some of my favorite artists are George Strait, John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot, Bobby Bare, Buck Owens, Midland, and El Wencho. These music artists are the top of the pack in terms of musical talent and entertainment. My favorite songwriters are Tom T. Hall, Merle Haggard, Paul Overstreet, and Vince Gill. These guys are storytellers to the hilt. They can spin a yarn musically that is memorable. These musicians are my inspiration for the songwriter I engage in day after day. To date I have written 319 songs and counting. Sometimes a song takes a very long time to develop and put down. Other times, the song almost writes itself in as little as ten minutes. I believe each song I write should tell a good story and share an interesting or intriguing message. In upcoming posts, I will share more about my songwriting method and style. I will also speak more about the legends who inspire my songwriting. Words are a beautiful thing. They help us communicate and sing. We all have a song to sing!
