Today I created a new page on my Songwriting website: The Soundtracks Behind My Songs. I have always enjoyed music, playing it in my room when I was kid, listening to it on the radio in my truck as I got older, and now I play music all the time through my Bose headphones, on my turntable, and through my iPhone in my truck. Music has a special way of connecting with us and I love listening to music!
The music I listen to has influenced me greatly. These songs and artists are my heroes. They have left an indelible mark on me and they shape me to be the songwriter I am becoming. As I am writing new lyrics, I often listen to these songs. I am not trying to copy them, I am just trying to find my own voice through them, and often times I do.
I believe music has the ability and almost magical way of touching people’s lives. Have you ever heard a song for the first time, and stood frozen in your tracks as you hear the lyrics put to music? I remember one time, I was just parking my truck in a parking lot, as George Strait’s song, “Give It Away” played. I sat there in the parking space listening, mesmerized by the story of that song as it unfolded. It was incredible!
I thought it is important to share “The Soundtracks Behind My Songs” because my songwriting did not come out of a vacuum. There was music behind it that was influential to me. On this new page I am sharing who these artists are, a brief description of each artist, and a list of my favorite songs of theirs. I hope you will take the time to look through this list. You will most likely see some you enjoy listening to, too. You might even find a new favorite.
These are the artist and songs that have shaped me.
